About the Gordon Family
John Francis Gordon (who died in a train accident in 1895, shortly after the birth of Taylor) married Mary Anna Goodlow in 1879 in Cairo, Illinois. She was born a slave in 1853 in Kentucky, and died in 1924. The eldest son was Robert James, born in Cairo, Illinois in 1881, died in WSS in 1962. John Francis Gordon, Jr. (know by nickname Sam) was Born 1885 in White Sulphur Springs, and died in Seattle in 1952, where he spent most of his life, working as a cook for the Dollar Steamship Line. George Washington Gordon, was born in 1888 in White Sulphur Springs, died in Bozeman 1948, where he spent most of his life working at the Elk’s Lodge, initially as steward and eventually as head caterer and bartender.
